Ever since I started in the OSINT field, I have always dreamed of building a virtual machine that will be packed with my favorite programs and scripts. Fortunately, the capabilities of Kali give us exactly this - to create your version of Kali, tailored according to your needs. This is how OSINTk.o was born.

OSINTk.o is more than just a VM, it is a project born out of a passion for diving deep into the capabilities of Linux, and the robust landscape of OSINT tools that the generous Github community provides for us.

The genesis of OSINTk.o stemmed from my desire to construct a comprehensive virtual machine that encapsulates the essential tools which I usually use during my OSINT investigations. Throughout this journey, I have encountered numerous challenges, particurarly in configuring XFCE menus and ensuring that Python scripts and their dependecies are correctly integrated.

Regardless of all the difficulties, I believe that this project adds some value to the field and I hope to inspire others to try to build their distros.

Inspiration and Acknowledgements

My journey was not solitary. Inspiration came from existing projects such as Trace Labs VM and CyberPunkOS, which paved the way for a new dimension of VMs. Now it is time to mention that Trace Labs VM was the pioneer when it comes to OSINT VM, and I got tremendous inspiration from their project.

Getting Started

To install and run OSINTk.o, you’ll need a bootable USB drive or a virtualization tool. Ensure your system meets the minimum Kali Linux requirements: at least 3GB of RAM and 20GB of hard disk space. The ISO file, weighing in at 4GB, is available for download here and it is compatible with platforms like UTMapp and VirtualBox.

Tools Included

OSINTk.o is packed with a wide array of tools tailored for various facets of OSINT work, from social media analysis to domain reconnaissance. Here’s a snapshot of what you can expect:

  • Frameworks: LinkScope, Maltego, Netcat, Nmap, Recon-ng, Spiderfoot, Tcpdump, theHarvester, and Wireshark.
  • Maps: Marble, FoxtrotGPS, and Gnome-Maps.
  • Social Media, Email, Phone Number, and Username Analysis Tools: A comprehensive list including FacebookChecker, GitSint, Instaloader, and many more.
